Tweeting On The Go: How Are You Using Twitter From Your Mobile Phone?

mobile phone While Twitter’s website may be the default place to tweet, there’s no denying that people are using Twitter from a mobile device at some point during the day.  In your car (yikes!), at work under your desk, during lunch, and in the airports where WiFi isn’t free (we’re looking at you Atlanta), mobile tweeting has become an irresistible thing to do.

From Nokia clients like Gravity to BlackBerry clients like the popular Twitterberry or the visually appealing TweetGenuis, it almost seems so 2007 to use Twitter’s mobile site or text messaging to update on the go.

How are YOU using Twitter from your mobile phone?

    I use Gravity whenever I'm outside the house. Really like the interface, so much better than Twitter's own mobile site. Of course I check replies and DMs on the go. More so than sending updates actually.
    And yes, I like Gravity better than Tweetdeck. The only reason I use Tweetdeck on the desktop, is that no matter how well mini-touch-QWERTY and T9 work, a full size keyboard is still easier to type on.

    I use PockeTwit for Windows Mobile phones.
    I do pretty much everything I do with Seesmic Desktop.
    Nah, I still like my desktop better since it does real time searches and will alert me.
  • I definitely am! I have an iPhone and have my close friends updates send through SMS and then I use TwitterFon to manage all my other twitter communications while on the go.
  • I like to handle tweets from my close friends the same way, via SMS! And using the iPhone apps sure makes it easier than it used to be on my old Windows Mobile brick.
  • That's a nice Twitter setup for personal versus "other" uses for Twitter.

    I use Twitter regularly on my iPhone, and use TwitterFon. Having tried other apps, I find TwitterFon to be the fastest, easiest to look at and there is a free version, (originally only free, but now with a discreet ad at the top). I recommend it.

    I feel in the minority, but I don't even have a texting plan on my cellphone and only tweet from the web interface at twitter.com
  • I use Twitter on my iPhone probably 2 to 1 than my computer. I use @tweetie for my iphone with multiple twitter accounts to channel the info flow. I use @tweetdeck on my computers and only occasionally use the twitter website. Using Twitter on the mobile phone and customizing what SMS pings you want is where I believe it is most useful.

    I use twitterberry. Like it, but I can't update it. Looking for a way to manage multiple twitter accounts from my blackberry, too.
  • I use the "40404" sms code for tweeting on the go. No smartphone yet, but I'm hoping to get one this summer. I have only a few select users with "mobile notification" status, otherwise my phone would fill up too quickly. I do get DM's on my phone, but it's a pale imitation of my preferred desktop app, Tweetdeck.
  • Unfortunately I have the 2008 Sidekick and there is no amazing application for Twitter yet. So I only get the text message program Twitter offers. I get updates for my closest friends. So I am only able to update my status and tweet back those that have made it on the list. Otherwise, I have to wait until I get to an actual computer to check everyone else's!

    I use Tweetie for the iPhone. I tried Twitterific, but Tweetie's functionality is much better. I check it all...updates, @ replies and DMs. I do like the Twitter client a little better since the color coding makes it easier to spot replies/mentions, etc. Tweetie is a great app and worth the money. :)

    Yup, I'm using it on my iPhone 3G with Tweetie. Great app for Twitter. Does all it needs to. There are some new apps out there but I can't be bothered to check them all out. Tweetie does everything it's supposed to.

    I use the full functionality of Twitter on the go, with a client called Twidroid on my T-Mobile G1. It offers everything from easy Re-tweets, DM's, @replies, notifications to one-click photo uploading (with support for Twitpic, Twitgoo, yFrog and their own photo hosting service Phodroid at present). It also offers search, and location search (using the GPS to track what people are saying near to where you are). It's the bomb!

  • I love Twitter on my mobile, esp. because I'm a transit rider with gaps to fill as I wait on buses and trains. My mobile's a T-Mobile Shadow, which runs on Windows Mobile. The best, least-buggy free app I've found for it is PockeTwit. It's easy to use, has a good UI and recent updates seem to have made it faster. I use it for updates, replies, DMs, TwitPit posts, surfing through user-strams -- just like I do my regular desktop client. The one thing I do differently is that for some links, which I know won't translate to the little mini-IE that runs on mobile (even with Squeezer), I just mark posts as Favorites so I go back and find them later when I'm at my desktop, either at home or work. Overall, I'd say Twitter for phone as been great!

    I use the TwitterFon app for the iPhone and I LOVE it!! I do it all: read recent tweets, DMs, @ replies & see what the current trending topics are. I def prefer it over my laptop twitter only because it seems to be more convienent and I have more phone on me all the time, whereas I only lug my compy to school. The only advantage the computer client has over TwitterFon is the ability to change my settings.

    I use TwitterBerry for my BlackBerry Pearl. I tweet from my mobile device, as well as checking timelines, DMs, and @ replies. And I'll reply to DMs from my device using the mobile app (not text messaging).

    Tweetdeck is tool of choice on the laptop - I really miss groups & search when on tinytwitter.

    I use Http://dabr.co.uk which has a lean but very efficient web interface and is very usable on your phone and in your desktop if you don't want to have an app loaded. Actually I think that that's what twitter web interface should be instead of that clumsy "thing".

    PockeTwit for windows mobile, though I will be upgrading to an iPhone 3G S very soon in which I will try and decide what twitter app on the iPhone I like best. My first try will be Nambu for iPhone because I enjoy they're desktop app on my Mac.

    Yes, I use Twitterific on my iPhone. I do prefer the PC version to my mobile version only because it seems easier to use. I update while I am on the go as well as on the PC. I definitly like the PC version the best!

    I use my smartphone to update twitter through the website. Why use a plugin when none is needed?

    Twitter is like google, in that the page is pretty clean and takes no time to load when I have 3g.

  • Sometimes, people just want more. I could never get the information I need from Twitter on the go from their default mobile site nor through text message updates. That's not to say they aren't beneficial, just not for me.

    Using TwitterBerry for most of my mobile Tweets, though sometimes the old text to 40404 is good too. I run into memory leak issues at times using TwitterBerry so am looking into alternatives

    When I'm away from my computer, I will text an update to Twitter, but I don't use a mobile Twitter client. I also receive DMs via text, but I don't usually reply with my phone. Other than that, I strictly use twitter.com.

    I use Tweetie from my iPhone and would say I use it 80% of the time with 20% using Twitter.com. I've also got a ping.fm account so I can email tweets- this is mainly to circumnavigate the iPhones lack of copy and paste...

    I use Tweetie. I was using m.slandr.net on my Treo. On the computer I'll run TweetDeck, but even if I'm at my work PC or MachBook at home, I'm checking Tweetie.

    I'll send updates and replies more often then I'll send DMs.

    And yes, I prefer my mobile client.

  • I use TwitterFon on my iPod a lot. I wouldn't say it's better than DestroyTwitter, but I use it a lot more because I'm not at my computer very often.
  • I use PocketTwit on my WinMobile phone. A great application, written by a responsible (and responsive) developer. I don't consider it better or worse than my desktop Twitter client (TwInbox, which runs in Outlook); they both have some limitations due to their environment, and both take ingenious advantage of the strength of their respective platforms.
  • m.twitter.com is plenty for me ... you can change / alter sms notifications as well to suit any need. Using an application is pure show, and pointing to a tweet addiction.

  • I use tweetie, twitterena and twitterbox on my iphone and uhmmm...i like these twitter clients for iphone more than for desktop! I meant tweetie as the other 2 i mentioned dont support desktop version.

    I've tried few twitter clients for iphone but tweetie won, the second i like is twitterena! When i check my tweets i check all of including dm replies and friends tweets
  • I mostly use PockeTwit on Windows Mobile (I have an HTC Kaiser). I also like ceTwit though. That was my first love ;)
    However recently I've been doing quite a bit of one-way tweeting of news from the superb Viigo, which is also available for Blackberry.

  • Twittelator for iPhone. Just switched from Tweettie. Much better.
  • I use Shozu on my E71. I find it the best app for uploading photos to Twitpic, Moblog, Facebook etc.
    Snaptu has a nice looking interface but not so good at dealing with photos and doesn't allow you to follow links in tweets, which is frustrating.
    And I use Twitterfox on my laptop.

  • I am a new IPhone User and I am in the Door Refinishing Biz in the Phoenix Arizona Metro Area. Using my IPhone and TwitterFon, I tweet before and after photos of the doors that I am refinishing. It's fast and easy. If the client (husband or spouse) isn't at home, they can see the progress we are making and even the finished door by simply following NoUglyDoors.

    In the next couple of weeks we will be launching our "UGLY Door of the Day" contest. Each day we will post a photo of an UGLY Door along with the zip code, street name and block number. If the qualified owner of the house with the UGLY Door sends us a DM with in a specified amount of time, we will refinish their UGLY Door for $1. This promotion will be echoed through all of our off-line advertising. Twitter, micro-blogging and social media... What a great time to be a marketer!

    There are several good twitter applications for windows mobile to choose from and more popping up all the time it seems. I have personally tried about 7 or 8 and I have settled on Twikini. There may be others that are good too, I am now just used to this app and it works great.
